Abstract

In general, farmers who cultivate rice plants in F. Trikoyo village, especially the Sri Wedari farmer group, rarely give organic matter to their rice fields, based on a survey conducted by interview method that farmers only provide chemical fertilizers on average. This of course will have a negative impact on the quality of paddy fields cultivated by farmers, lack of knowledge and awareness about the concept of a balance between organic and chemical. Besides that, if chemical fertilizers are given in large quantities, of course it will give big losses both economically and ecologically. Economically, farmers will spend a large amount of capital to buy fertilizers, while the results or the effects of giving chemical fertilizers themselves do not give significant results, in fact a lot will be wasted, while ecologically, chemical fertilizers that are not given according to recommendations will leave residues in the soil. The application of nitrogen fertilizer that exceeds the dose, for example, will invite the development of larger pests because excessive nitrogen application will cause plants to release substances that invite pests. Besides that, it is also exacerbated by the application of herbicides which are also not dosed correctly, causing contamination of rice fields which in turn will be contaminated with heavy metals. One solution to overcome this is that it needs to be made aware and given an understanding of the importance of giving or adding organic matter to paddy fields. For example, by giving compost and biochar. Many studies have been conducted that the application of compost, manure and biochar can improve the physical, biological, and chemical properties of the soil and is also capable of reducing heavy metals. In addition, the provision of compost and biochar can maintain soil moisture.
