Abstract

Nepenthes also known as pitcher plants are unique and interesting flora mostly developed as ornamental plants. These plants have an appeal not on the flowers but on the various shapes and colors of the pitchers. Each hybrid pitcher plant has varied quantitative and qualitative characters. This research was conducted with the aim of describing the morphological characters with 18 quantitative and 31 qualitative Nepenthes characters in Indonesia based on the morphological markers. This study used hybrid pitcher plants, namely N. reinwardtiana x N. eustachya, (N. eustachya x N. reinwardtiana) x N. clipeata, N. eustachya x N. beccariana, N. eustachya x N. ampullaria, N. ampullaria x N. sumatrana sibolga, (N. ampullaria x N. globosa) x (N. bicalcarata x N. globosa), N. globosa x N. gracilis, (N. bicalcarata x N. mirabilis) x (N. bicalcarata x N. globosa), N. ampullaria x N. reinwardtiana, N. reinwardtiana x N. mirabilis, and  N. northiana x N. veitchii. The results of the study show that the morphological descriptions of quantitative and qualitative characters of 11 Nepenthes’ genotypes have been successfully obtained and presented in the discussion.
