Abstract

The development of technological innovation needs to be continuously improved to produce good and economical products. One of them is interlock wall material. This study uses merapi sand as a light interlock brick filler material. The purpose of this research is to find out the effect of the diameter of the sand grain on the strong press and density of light interlock bricks.

The research began with an examination of fine aggregate characteristics then carried out mixed planning using mix design, conducting strong testing of light Interlock brick press on cylindrical test objects referring to SNI 1974-2011 and density in the Structural Laboratory of the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Tidar Magelang University.

The results of the highest average press strength study were found in the 0.60 mm grain diameter variation of 10.20 MPa, while the lowest average press strength value was found in the 4.75 mm grain diameter variation of 3.34MPa. Density value decreased from a variation of 0.60 mm of 1723,264 kg / m3 to a variation of 4.75 mm of 1619,965 kg / m3. Overall it can be concluded that the diameter of the sand grains affects the strength of the press and the density of light interlock bricks.
