Abstract


In the process of heat treatment of steel will cause changes in shape (distortion). Changes in shape or distortion that occurs are kept to a minimum, especially for components that have high tolerances such as sprockets, gears, pistons and shafts. The size of the distortion that occurs during immersion depends on several things and one of them is the position of the immersion itself. Immersion is carried out on profile I specimens, profile I specimens have three different immersion positions. The first is the position of the I profile lying down, the second the position of the I profile is upright, and the third is the position of the I profile forming the letter H upright. Results of distortion measurements for profile I specimens, the largest distortion occurs at the first immersion position (PP) which is 0,6%, the smallest distortion occurs at the third immersion position (PH3), which is 0,45%. Results of hardness testing, it was found that there was an increase in the hardness of the specimen, namely from the raw material of 349,48 kg/mm2 on the Vickers Hardenes scale. In the specimen the first immersion position (PP) or lying position increased to 493,62 kg/mm2, then the second immersion position (PL) or upright position increased to 487,14 kg/mm2, and the third immersion position (PH) or the upright position of the letter H increases to 439,68 kg/mm2.
