Abstract

Transient current is the occurrence of switching in a circuit that causes a surge in current and voltage. The process of transient occurrence is that the component experiences current and voltage pressure on the transformer that supplies the load, this has an impact on the decrease in the work of the transformer. The analysis of the transient current discharge on the primary side of the transformer was carried out with SPLN No. 64 of 1985. This study discusses the analysis of the transient current on the primary side of the transformer at the time of load shedding. The results of this study are the data obtained and the results of calculations and simulations that have been carried out, it can be concluded that the discharge of the load can cause an increase in the value of the instantaneous or transient current. From the simulation results, the difference between the transient current on the primary side of the transformer and the effective current on the transformer at the Maninjau hydropower plant is 37.4% at the first load, 57.7% in the second load, and 81.03% at the third load. Based on the SPLN Standard No. 64 of 1985, the simulation at a load of 18 MVA has exceeded that of 1xIn. This will cause damage to the transformer, especially in the winding section and can reduce the reliability of the transformer because it must withstand very large transient currents.
