Abstract

Along with the increasing standard of living of the community is also followed by an increase in the need for energy sources that result in increased carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions if not followed by the selection of low-carbon fuels. Transportation emissions supporting air pollution reached 85%. The use of ethanol in the transportation sector can contribute to reducing vehicle greenhouse gas emissions. To achieve that goal, a comparative study of development on gasoline-ethanol fuel mix combustion in internal combustion engines with variations E20, E30, and E40 has been conducted through ANSYS ICE FLUENT 18.1 Modeling. The goal of the study was to simulate a combustion cycle in an internal combustion engine that includes combustion processes and emissions of formation inside the combustion chamber. CFD modeling results obtained gasoline fuel with the highest combustion temperature reached 702 K while the lowest combustion temperature of E30 fuel amounted to 601 K. With the use of ethanol as a fuel mixture in the besin engine can reduce the decrease from the rate of combustion pressure that is at E30 fuel by 706,000 Pa where the highest pressure on gasoline fuel is 716,000 Pa or equivalent to 7.16 bar, And can reduce exhaust emissions, recorded the smallest HC emission value on E40 fuel by 278.2 ppm and the lowest CO emissions also on E40 fuel by 0.512%.
