ABSTRACT

Pallet wood waste is the one of wastes that has economic value. This study aims to determine effective variation length on the joint of shape modification that applied to the straight lip connection on the flexural strength, as well as to determine the effect of the variation length on the modification of the hooked straight lip connection on the Modulus of Rupture (MoR) and Modulus of Elasticity (MoE). The tests carried out consisted of tests for moisture content, wood density, and flexural strength. The reference flexural strength test is ASTM D4761-19 with a concentrated load in the middle of the span. The specimens for each variation were 1100 mm x 60 mm x 80 mm. The number of specimens consisted of 25 specimens which were divided into 5 variations and each variation consisted of 5 samples. The variations in the length of the modified form of the connection are, 0.10h; 0.20h; 0.30h; 0.40h; and 0.50h. The results showed that the best connection was variation Ep (0.50h) because it obtained the highest MoR and MoE values, 8.591 MPa and 2901.989 MPa. The test results of straight lip joints are related to the addition of modifications to the shape of the connection that affect the flexural strength.
