Abstract

Gear sprocket is an important component in the transmission system. Gear sprocket serves as a transfer of power in motor vehicles. Gear sprockets must have a high level of hardness. Pack carburizing aims to increase the hardness of the imitation gear sprocket. The method used is by varying the holding time, namely 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours at a temperature of 900° C. Then the quenching process is carried out using an oil cooling medium with SAE 20. The results of the chemical composition test show that the imitation motor gear belongs to the category of carbon steel. low with a carbon content of 0.0816%. The results of the Vickers hardness test show that the average value of raw material hardness is 208.9 VHN. After the pack carburizing process with holding times of 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours, the average hardness values became 443.5 VHN, 451.6 VHN, and 490.9 VHN.
